Totnes XX - Bryde

To close the Totnes XX celebrations - our very own local festival to celebrate International Womens Day 2019 - we have a brilliant line of entertainment comprising of national and local superstars.  Our Headline act Bryde will be supported by Jamming Station, Pavloval and Pale Blue Eyes.  After all this amazing music we will welcome Sista Please? to the DJ booth to play some classic tunes until the small hours.

Our Compère for the evening will be  Stand Up Comedic Performance Poet Shelley Szender.

We are super excited to welcome Bryde to the stage to headline the Totnes XX closing night party. Pembrokeshire-born, London-based Bryde aka Sarah Howells, is a woman and an electric guitar playing fierce and fragile songs.  Swaying from vulnerable to uncompromising, Bryde's music is honest and furiously authentic.

Fascinated with human psychology and inner workings of relationships Bryde's songs still hold close a defiant and life-affirming quality.  Described as being about "entangling and unravelling" they move from tender and delicate, to tough and unforgiving, drawing reviews that reflect this.  Bryde will be performing with her full band.

Pale Blue Eyes is the latest project from Lucy and Matthew Board (Matthew and Me). Matthew’s ethereal vocals, shoe-gazing guitar, and a smattering of psychedelic synths (courtesy of Dean Honer), hover above the  motorik beats provided by Lucy Board’s pounding drums and Aubrey Simpsons’s low-slung basslines . The result is dreamy, but urgent tunes, that will keep you on your feet.

Jamming Station

Is a weekly platform for young musicians in Totnes to get together to write, jam and perform together. Tonight they present an extra special collaboration featuring some of their talented female members performing alongside some of the women playing this evening.

With influences like the Throwing Muses, X-Ray Spex and The Raincoats, Pavlova is truly an 'eclectic lady-land' and give a lofi buzz-saw edge to the Totnes music scene. They move seamlessly between genres, yet always sound like themselves.  Expect multi-part harmonies, hyper-distortion and odd time-signatures They have recently released their debut EP ‘Queensway’
